So a few weeks ago i decided that i would love to donate my blood. I knew it would be a really great opportunity to give of something that money can not buy. So i got up this morning, had a good healthy breakfast fully of protein. And packed two water bottles for school. I was feeling very confident when standing in line for my finger prick to make sure i was able to donate. I was able to donate and i was so excited, so i finally got to the place where i was suppose to lay down. I layed down and was greeted by the lady who would be taking me blood. I was a little bit nervous, but i felt completely confident that everything would be just fine. A few seats over, my good friend was getting her blood done as well. But she was not doing so well and was crying. So i gave her words of encouragement, while i was being jabbed with the needle. It didn't hurt one bit, and i was feeling very confident and happy that i was doing this after the 3 hour wait in line. The lady says, wow... you are filling up really quickly. I smiled and looked back over to my friend, who was struggling with 2 nurses. The nurse had put the needle in wrong and she was not doing very well, so i kept saying "you got it girl!" and encouraging her. [[Ive also NEVER been squeamish about blood, rather i am interested by it all]] Next thing i knew my body started to feel warm, it got increasingly warm. And this was odd for me since i am usually always ice cold. I started to tingle and my body started to ache. The nurse asked, are you doing ok, and i replied with i am not sure, i don't feel so great now. Just then my vision blurred and the room turned gray, and then became completely black. I had fallen unconscious, during this time i had a dream that felt like a hour long dream. I don't really remember what it was about, but i know that the dream seemed to last for a long while. I woke up to 3 people hovering over me, one man that i had not seen and the other two nurses. I said "did i pass out?" they nodded, "how long was i out?" only five seconds. I was stunned, it seemed i was out for a long long while at least 30 minutes minimum. The problem, i later figured out was that my blood was flowing to quickly and the nurse was not monitoring it correctly, she left me unattended to help another student and i had too much blood loss to the brain, thus i went unconscious. Then another man, layed me down and applied two cold towels to my face and neck for me to cool down since i was so hot. I was unhooked from the i.v. already, and I was transferred onto a rolling bed and put into the rehabilitation room, where my vital signs got checked three different times, before i was able to be released. I then had some snacks to get the color back into my skin, and since i was very hungry. I had missed lunch since i was in the rehabilitation center, but they sent me back to class regardless. The whole rest the day ive felt very drained and sick, and sleepy. The worst part of it all is the fact that, my blood is not even going to be able to be used. Because i was only a few oz. away from being full enough then i passed out.
Despite all of this, i am still going to go back and get my blood drawn. This definitely will not stop me from helping save someones life.
Better Luck Next Time..eh?
<3 God Bless
